Durco Mark III references may include horizontal ANSI process pumps, ISO configurations, in-line arrangements, low-flow designs and other variants. Some sellers also use “Mark III 2” or “Group 2” in descriptions. Confirm the terminology on the nameplate, drawing or existing parts before ordering.

The replacement scope may include an individual impeller, casing, shaft, shaft sleeve, cover, wear component, mechanical seal, matched wet end or complete pump. The exact scope depends on the pump configuration and the condition of the reusable power end.

Reverse-vane impellers: what must be verified

Some Durco Mark III configurations use reverse-vane or back-pump-out impeller features. These features can affect axial thrust, seal-chamber conditions and the hydraulic behavior of the pump. The correct impeller must match the specific configuration, diameter, vane geometry, rotation, shaft fit and operating duty.

Do not assume that a generic ANSI impeller is a suitable Mark III replacement. A dimensionally similar impeller may still have the wrong hydraulic profile, rear-shroud features, balance requirements or clearance relationship.

Flowserve Mark 3 reverse-vane impellers are set relative to the rear cover in the applicable manufacturer Installation, Operation and Maintenance (IOM) instructions. Open-vane configurations use a different clearance reference. Goulds 3196 clearance procedures must follow the exact 3196 configuration and IOM; they should not be assumed identical to a Mark 3 reverse-vane adjustment. Never copy a clearance value or adjustment direction from one pump family into another without the exact manual and configuration.

Replacement timing should be based on inspection results, operating history, material loss, hydraulic performance and the applicable project or manufacturer acceptance criteria. Fixed service-life numbers should not replace measurement.

Material compatibility for Mark III replacement parts

Potential materials may include 316 stainless steel, CD4MCuN duplex stainless steel, Alloy 20, Hastelloy C-276, titanium, nickel alloys and cast steel, subject to the selected design and process conditions.

Durco or Flowserve material designations should be checked against the original documentation and the actual ASTM or equivalent material specification. A proprietary designation should not be treated as a complete chemical-compatibility assessment.

Review the fluid composition, concentration, temperature, pH, chlorides, solids, velocity, erosion and corrosion mechanism. Mechanical seal materials, elastomers, flush or barrier arrangements and pressure limits require a separate check.

External adjustment and seal-chamber checks

Some Mark III configurations include external impeller adjustment features. The adjustment mechanism, threads, locking components and related sealing surfaces must match the pump design and production revision.

Seal-chamber geometry is equally important. Confirm the stuffing-box cover, seal chamber bore, flush ports, gasket surfaces and mechanical seal dimensions as one assembly. A casing or cover that fits the bolt pattern may still be unsuitable if the seal environment is wrong.

How to verify Mark III replacement parts before ordering

Send the following information to the supplier:

  1. Photograph the complete Durco or Flowserve nameplate.
  2. Record the exact model, group or frame and pump size.
  3. Provide the serial number, drawing revision and previous modification history when available.
  4. Measure or document the impeller diameter and configuration.
  5. Provide casing flange, nozzle, foot, shaft, sleeve and seal-chamber information.
  6. Describe the fluid, temperature, flow, head, speed and driver power.
  7. State required materials, testing, inspection and traceability documents.

The supplier should review the data against an approved drawing or documented dimensional basis. “Mark III” alone is not sufficient evidence of interchangeability.

When should you replace one part, the wet end or the complete pump?

One component may be appropriate when:

  • The remaining wetted and rotating parts meet the inspection criteria.
  • The power end, bearings, shaft and baseplate remain serviceable.
  • The duty and installation interfaces have not materially changed.

A matched wet end may be appropriate when:

  • The casing, impeller and cover have related corrosion or erosion damage.
  • The existing power end and installation interfaces can be reused.
  • The buyer wants one documented assembly instead of several unverified components.

A complete pump should be considered when:

  • The power end has recurring vibration, bearing or alignment problems.
  • The driver, coupling, baseplate or piping arrangement is changing.
  • The process duty, fluid, pressure or reliability requirements have changed.
