A catalog match is only a starting point. The installed component, drawing revision, mating parts and duty point should control the final review.
What Proves Interchangeability?
A claim of interchangeability should be supported by configuration-specific evidence. A practical verification hierarchy is: an approved part-number cross-reference, a verified drawing or dimensional interface, inspection data from the installed component, and final engineering confirmation before production.
ASME B73.1 dimensional conventions do not prove that all internal parts across brands or pump families interchange. Separate dimensional, mechanical, hydraulic, material and operating compatibility.
For a Goulds or Durco component, use the OEM part-number cross-reference with the installed model, size, frame or group and removed-part evidence.
Material Traceability
For wetted replacement parts, specify the required material and the documentation expected with the order. If an MTR, EN 10204 3.1 document, PMI or another inspection record is required, state it in the RFQ rather than assuming that every supplier provides the same documentation by default.
Material selection should follow the actual chemical service, concentration, temperature, contaminants, solids and failure mode. A material designation without traceability or application context is not enough for a critical wetted component.
